LONDONDERRY, NH – Working in partnership with the Veterans Memorial Monuments Fund, Inc., NHToDo Magazine participated in a press conference in Boscawen, New Hampshire on Monday, February 7, 2005. Boscawen is the site of the N.H. State Veterans Cemetery which opened in 1997. NHToDo’s Executive Editor Daron Libby spoke at the press conference that kicked off this unique fundraising venture between the veterans of the state and NHToDo Magazine.

Libby spoke of a joint program designed specifically to raise the funds needed to build a beautiful U. S. Armed Forces WALK OF HONOR memorial in the N.H. State Veterans Cemetery. The construction budget calls for $125,000 which Libby aims to raise by July 4, 2005.

Libby said, “NHToDo is asking the friends and families of the 130,000 veterans of New Hampshire to contribute to this effort through a contribution of $25, $40 or $55. As a thank-you gift, they'll receive a subscription to NHToDo.” We are relying on the help of the huge statewide veterans organizations and major media such as newspapers, television and radio to help spread the word.

Monies will also benefit the Liberty House in Manchester (New Hampshire’s only transitional housing for homeless veterans), individual American Legion and VFW posts around the state as well as the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton. Libby pointed out that the project is a civilian effort, with no funds being drawn from government or public veteran coffers. He also noted that NHToDo is proud to be a part of honoring this nation’s veterans.

Automatic subscription renewals will continue to generate much needed revenue year after year for Liberty House and local veteran posts as well as a Memorial Maintenance Fund and the NH Veterans Home.

As a monthly subscriber to NHToDo, readers will also receive a personalized NHToDo ClubCard, which is good for discounts at lodgings, restaurants and attractions throughout the state. Libby announced a new monthly full-page segment in NHToDo called “Beyond the Call,” dedicated to public awareness of NH veterans history and affairs.

Bill Carr from the Veterans Memorial Monuments Fund, Inc. headed the press conference and introduced the distinguished guests. Brigadier General Kenneth R. Clark, Adjutant General for the State of New Hampshire National Guard spoke with full support for this project. The General said, “This memorial will add to the character of the cemetery. I like the idea of reaching out to the veterans and I am confident that the plan this group has devised will work.” The designer of the Walk of Honor memorial, Dr. Norm Noel addressed the crowd and explained the facets of the design. The memorial will be a centerpiece in the Memorial Walkway, consisting of five black granite monuments – one for each branch of service placed on a circular walkway of granite pavers with a flagpole in the center. The monuments will stand forever in tribute and gratitude to those that have served. Stanley Arnold, assisting in Governor Lynch’s transition team also read a letter from the Governor and relayed his praise of this endeavor. Present as well was Anthony Romano who is the chairman of the Veterans Memorial Monuments Fund, Inc.

Tilton resident Delano Kennard, NHToDo’s program director for this project, will be visiting local veteran posts around the state and providing radio interviews to spark excitement about the Walk of Honor memorial. Groups interested in scheduling an overview about this statewide fundraising event should contact Del Kennard at 1-888-345-8636.

An internet website, www.nhwalkofhonor.com, has been developed to keep everyone updated and informed and to accept secure online transations. Libby closed his presentation by stating, “As we support our active troops abroad, NHToDo is proud to provide an opportunity for Americans to express their gratitude and support for those veterans who served in earlier wars. The Walk of Honor will stand for all Americans to say to our veterans, ‘You are not forgotten and we are deeply grateful for all you did for our state and nation.’”
