July 2004

My editorial essays have two major goals. One is to share with you the things I find exciting and fun. Two is to help as many people as I can to have happier, healthier, longer lives.
Friends, I believe we’re going to have the most amazing wild flower display in history his summer. Last year there were a few violets on my lawn. This year, it’s like a huge purple carpet. Wow! It’s the same with the ground ivy…another carpet. Yesterday the front lawn just had grass. This morning there were tens of thousands of miniature white violets. Overnight!
It was the same with the bluets. One day no sign of them. The next, thousands all over the place. Ditto the dandelions. I looked carefully for them on Tuesday and couldn’t find any blossoms. On Wednesday there were hundreds, interspersed with violets. My wife, Sherry, hates dandelions. I think they are beautiful. Gorgeous. Are they weeds or wild flowers?
My heart fills with joy as I walk among the wild flowers. In July, at the height of the display, I’ve counted 36 different kinds in my pastures. Please take the time to enjoy this beauty this summer.
It’s also healthy to be out in the sun and the walk is good exercise. No sunglasses allowed. You want those UVs to get into your eyes to generate the vitamin D your body needs for health.
There are so many exciting things to do that sitting, watching TV is a crime against nature. Skiing, scuba diving, horseback riding, listening to a symphony, learning something new from a book, playing cribbage, all keep my mind busy.

Dead Water

There’s a lot of baloney out there about distilled water being “dead” water. The real “dead” water is the stuff coming out of your faucet. It’s deadly. Only, like so many other toxic substances, it works so slowly that we don’t notice it.
A promotion from NutriTeam Distillers, Box 71, Ripton, VT 05766: 800-785-9791; 802-388-0661, 885-377-2198 (fax); www.steamdistiller.com; cited some excellent references. Herewith.
Dr. Allen E. Banik, M. D., who spent much of his life researching the effects of water on the human body reported the following in his publication The Choice Is Clear: “The only minerals that the body can utilize are the organic minerals. All other types of minerals are foreign substances to the body and must be eliminated. Distilled water is the only water that can be taken into the body without damage to the tissues…distilled water is water which has been turned into vapor, so that all its impurities are left behind. Then, by condensing, it is turned back to pure water. It is the only water which is pure - the only water free from all impurities” (the book is reviewed on page 169 of my Health Guide).
“Water hardness (inorganic minerals in solution) is the underlying cause of many, if not all, of the diseases resulting from poisons in the intestinal tract. These hard minerals pass through the intestinal walls and get into the lymphatic system, which delivers all of its products to the blood, which in turn, distributes to all parts of the body. This is the cause of much human disease.” Dr. Charles Mayo of the Mayo Clinic.
“Even tap water invariably contains a variety of poisons such as chlorine, chloramine, asbestos, pesticides, flouride, copper, mercury, and lead. The best way to remove all these contaminants is by distilling.”
How To Save Your Teeth: Toxic-Free Preventitive Dentistry, Dr. David Kennedy, D.D.S.“Let me classify the nine kinds of water. They are hard water, raw water, boiled water, soft water, rain water, snow water, filtered water, de-ionized water, and distilled water. All are kinds of water - but remember this: only one of these nine kinds of water is good for you.”
“If you decide on bottled water, make sure it’s distilled. In the long run you’ll save money if you clean your water at home. It’s more convenient than hauling gallon jugs from the store. The ‘gold standard’ for purifying your water is a system that distills your water and filters it. You have the comfort of knowing there is no chlorine, fluoride, bacteria, viruses, pesticides, or lead. You get nothing but H2O.” Maximum Health. Dr. Robert D. Willix, Jr., M.D.
The NutriTeam Countertop Distiller is $119. Its boil chamber and cooling coils are all stainless steel. No aluminum in contact with water. It comes complete with one polycarbonate collection bottle, power cord, instruction manual, a six-pack of charcoal filters, and a free bottle of residue cleaner (for hard water cleanup).
Okay, now you have plenty of pure water available. That’s fine, if you drink it. A lot of it. Like eight to ten glasses a day, minimum. If you are detoxing your system make that 20 glasses a day, as recommended by Dr. Lorraine Day (www.drday.com).
One more thing…do not (NOT) drink water with your meals. Wait for a half hour after a meal so the food has a chance to get digested. That way you won’t dilute the stomach acids and slow the digestion process. And that goes for coffee, tea, soda pop, cocoa, and wine, if you are still drinking those toxic liquids.
Your body is 70% water. If you want the cells in your blood stream, your lymph system and the rest of your body to be healthy, you need to give them all the water they need…not dehydrate them and then wonder why you get sick so easily. Read Your Body’s Many Cries For Water by Dr. Yiamouyannis (reviewed on page 168 of my Health Guide).
If you provide too much water, it’ll drain off. When you provide too little you mess up the system…like letting the oil run dry in your car.
Oh, no, I’m not getting a commission on distiller sales. I’m recommending it because it’s the best deal I’ve found yet on quality and price. My recommendations are not for sale.

Phone Magic

Let me know when you get fed up with boiler-room calls soliciting stuff. This goes for “courtesy calls” too. Okay, I won’t make you wait. When you hear one of these calls starting, just say, “Hold on, please” and put down the phone. When you eventually hear the phone company’s beep-beep-beep tone it’s time to hang it up.
Now, how about those calls where there’s no one on the other end? I get ’em every day. What’s happening is that a telemarketing computer makes the calls and records the time of day when someone answers the phone so their callers will know the best time to call to reach a live person.
So what can you do to flummox this automated system? Simple, just hit the # key six or seven times, as fast as you can. This kicks your number out of their dialing system.

Boggle

Allan Turoff, a good friend of mine back in my car rallying days, is the guy who invented Boggle. I love the game because it gives my mind as much exercise as crossword puzzles. Big Boggle has sixteen cubes with letters on them…four rows of four letters. The idea is to shake up the cubes, let them fall into the holes and then make as many four or more letter words as you can. Adding an “S” or a “D” to a word counts as a separate word.
I was delighted to see in King of the Hill (Fox, Sunday nights before The Simpsons), that the mother was involved with Boggle tournaments.
Here’s a group to try. Let’s see how good you are. Remember, your mind, like the rest of your body, is a “use it or lose it” deal.

Let me know how you do. I’ll let you know how many words I made next month so it won’t spoil your fun now. Drop me a note to Box 360, Hancock NH 03449 or via email to w2nsd@aol.com (that’s my ham radio call letters).

Building Your Club

How can your club attendance be built? Just have more interesting meetings. And that means attracting exciting speakers. As president of the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, how did I increase the membership tenfold in just one year? Exciting speakers.
Yes, I’m available. I’ve lectured at Yale, Case Western, B.U., Princeton, Rensselaer, and a bunch more colleges. I’ve given keynote talks at educational, computer, music industry, communications, and political conferences.
If your meeting is within easy driving distance of Hancock and I don’t have a conflict, give me a call at 603-588-0107. Pick a subject you’d like me to talk about. Just one.
